Below is the notice sent by President Jerome announcing the postponement:

    Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:

After great deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to delay Commencement until later in the year, after the crisis has abated.

I know that this is sad news for our graduates and their families and for the faculty and staff who look forward to this very special event each year. However, with coronavirus cases still on the rise in the region, it is the right and responsible thing to do.

The restrictions on large group gatherings will almost certainly not be lifted in time for us to proceed with Commencement in June.

We are exploring our options for celebrating the Class of 2020 later in the year and will circle back once we have new information.

It will likely take place in late September or early October. St. Lucia’s graduation in October is not impacted by today’s announcement.

Graduates who have not yet ordered their cap and gown may hold off on doing so as the April 16th ordering deadline is no longer valid. If you would prefer to order your cap and gown now, you may certainly do so. Simply follow the directions at www.monroecollege.edu/capandgown. We are working with the vendor to see if we can have purchases shipped directly to your home instead of the campus.

Grad Finale and all other Commencement-related activities in May and June are also canceled. We will announce new dates for those events as new plans are finalized.

While disappointing to hear, this is the right decision for the health and safety of our graduates, their families, and our faculty and staff.

As always, please email me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions at mjerome@monroecollege.edu.

    Stay well.

    President Marc Jerome
